The Kerry Kouture Guide to Fit, Size & Fedora Details

How to measure your head properly, how fedora sizing actually works, and how brim, crown, material and feather change the personality of the hat.

Measure your head, not your memory

Run a soft tape around your head about an eighth of an inch above your ears and across the middle of your forehead — where the hat will actually sit. Keep the tape level and snug, not tight. Measure twice.

One important correction: your fitted baseball cap size is not your fedora size. Caps stretch, sit differently, and are built on a different last. Measure properly, or better yet, get fitted.

How our sizing works

The house uses Small, Medium, Large and X-Large across Wool and Straw. Wool sizes: Small 6 3/4 to 7, Medium 7 1/4 to 7 3/8, Large 7 1/2 to 7 5/8, X-Large 7 3/4 to 7 7/8. Straw sizes: Small 6 7/8 to 7, Medium 7 1/8 to 7 1/4, Large 7 3/8 to 7 1/2, X-Large 7 5/8. Wool X-Large is fitted in person rather than sold online. Spacers are included inside each hat so you can fine-tune the fit at home.

The Beaver Collection is different. Beaver fedoras are carried in stock; custom made-to-order pieces can also be built with a 3–4 week delivery time.

Brim and crown

A 4 inch straight brim with a bound edge is the house signature: architectural, modern, and photographs with real presence. Narrower brims read more traditional; wider brims read more editorial.

The center crease crown is the classic fedora shape. It reads sharp from the front and elegant from the side, and it holds up to travel.

Material

Beaver felt is the pinnacle — water-repellent by nature, lighter and warmer than wool, and it conforms to your head over time. Wool felt is structured, resilient and made in the USA; it recovers well from travel. Straw, handwoven in Cuenca, is the warm-weather answer: exceptionally light and breathable.

The feather changes everything

No feather is the most formal expression — clean, quiet, boardroom and black tie. A short feather adds a controlled accent, ideal for daily wear with tailoring. A longer statement feather turns the hat into the centrepiece of the outfit; wear it when you intend to be seen.

Come in if you can

If you are near a retailer that carries Kerry Kouture, stop in. Thirty to forty-five minutes with the hats in your hands will tell you more than any chart — and you will leave with the right size, the right material and the right feather.

Find your size

Four sizes. Measured, not guessed.

Run a soft tape around your head about a finger's width above your ears and across the middle of your forehead — that's where the hat sits. Keep it level and snug, then match your number below.

  • Small6 3/4 to 7hat size
  • Medium7 1/4 to 7 3/8hat size
  • Large7 1/2 to 7 5/8hat size
  • X-Large7 3/4 to 7 7/8fitted in person

Spacers are included inside every hat, so you can fine-tune the fit at home. If you are near a retailer that carries Kerry Kouture, come in — being sized in person beats guessing every time.

One correction worth knowing: your fitted baseball cap size is not your fedora size. Caps stretch and sit differently — measure properly, or come in and let us do it.

Common questions
